It has been my pleasure to serve you Mr. Bailey.

I  just found out today that a longtime customer and friend Chuck Bailey past away suddenly on February 24, 2012. The Baileys are from Plymouth Minnesota so I did not see the obituary until I heard the news today. I wish that I could have attended the memorial service for this great man.

Chuck and I go back around 20 years or so.  For over 23 years our family has provided the security for Chuck’s family. My father Jack Brodmarkle, my brother Ed Brodmarkle, and all of us here worked with Chuck.  I know everyone built a good friendship with him just as I did.

Since Chuck lived in Plymouth, he would call me to find out what the weather was like, how much snow was on the ground, if  the ice was off the lake, or the get a referral on something he needed done. I learned quickly that when Chuck called we were going to talk a little business and then catch up on things going on in our lives. He relied on me for his security services, but also to be his connection to what was happening up North. Chuck knew everyone here at our company on a first name basis.  He knew my father, my brother, my children, my interests, and more. He was a really nice man who cared about people and what they did. He was always courteous, fair and had a great attitude.

The passing of Mr. Bailey has me thinking  how blessed we are here at Midwest Security & Fire to have so many great customers, many who have become very good friends. We will continue to provide the best security service for the Bailey family and wish them our sincere condolences on the passing of their husband and father.

I am going to miss Chuck’s phone calls asking about the weather. Rest in peace Chuck.

Made in the USA

Custom Security for your Home or Business

A year and a half ago we decided to search out another brand of security system because we were not happy with the direction of our existing line . After an exhaustive search we found our new line and it was right in front of us for the last 30 years. DMP Security Systems is designed, engineered, manufactured, and supported in Springfield, Ohio. It is some of the best security equipment I have ever seen in my 20 years in this industry. While DMP is not in Brainerd MN, it is in the USA and much closer than China or Mexico. It showed me that it is possible for electronics manufacturing to happen in the USA

Security at your Business

Commercial security and surveillance systems

Security Tip of the Week

Report strangers in your office or workplace. Visitors and staff should wear badges. Others you don’t recognize may be thieves who have walked past reception or found an open back door. Politely ask strangers if they need some assistance or report them to Security, Staff or Police.

Thieves are as likely to steal your purse or wallet as they are to take company property, so it is in everyone’s interest to keep our premises safe.

Security Systems for the Self Storage Industry from Midwest Security & Fire

DigiGuard Wireless Door Sensor Replacement Battery

Midwest Security & Fire installs and services security and access systems for the Self Storage industry throughout Minnesota. One of the system manufacturers we have worked with is Digitech. Digitech has and continues to go through many changes in the products and organization if the business.

Several years back Digitech came out with a new product featuring wireless door alarms for the units doors in a self storage facility. This system was designed to install or retrofit an existing facility to have individual door alarms for each storage unit and sound an alarm should a unit be broken into when occupied by a tenant. The company that manufactured the wireless transmitters and accessories for that product went out of business and therefore Digitech was no longer able to support the product. This was a pretty bad deal for the facility owners who purchased the products for their facilities some of which had 500 or more door alarms.

Midwest Security & Fire provides service and maintenance for one of these facilities using the Digitech DigiGuard wireless door transmitters sensors and in an effort to provide support for the facility has been able to source spare parts and accessories until recently. The company that was providing the replacement battery assembly pack no longer makes that part. After many exhaustive hours of searching and research Midwest was able to locate the parts necessary to build a replacement battery assembly pack for the existing transmitters. This has allowed us to continue supporting the existing door alarm system for many more years and save the facility owner a costly total system replacement.

If you are looking for the Digitech DigiGuard replacement battery assembly pack contact us at 218-825-8844 or info@midwestsecurityandfire.com for more information. We will provide a quotation for your quantity desired.

Low Temperature and Freeze Up alarms for Residential Home Security Systems

Adjustable Low Temperature Sensor

I just went out to get todays mail and was reminded that winter and cold temperatures are here again. It has been a mild winter so far with little snow and less than average temperatures but that won’t last long. Extreme cold temperature and snow will be here soon enough.

Since many of our customers are second home owners, seasonal residents, or homeowners who may be on vacation during cold periods, we offer low temperature or freeze sensors in their homes. The sensors detect a temperature condition and the alarm system communicates that information with our monitoring center. Our operators notify the homeowner or responsible parties to the condition. POur systems aslo have the ability to adjust temperatures as an option.

Every year we have several of these sensors that activate and we find that the heating system is not working to heat the home. While there are many reasons for this occuring, notification and response to the event is critcal to preventing damages in the home. I have seen homes destroyed by furnace failure and the resulting damages caused by frozen pipes and water damage.

To have this feature installed or added to your existing system, just give us a call at 218-825-8844 or send us an email at info@midwestsecurityandfire.com  . You may find more information about Midwest Security & Fire and our products we install at www.midwestsecurityandfire.com

Crime Never Takes A Vacation

Security & Surveillance Brainerd Lakes MN Alarm Systems

Our economy has spurred a  increase in burglaries and home invasions across the country, with agencies reporting an increase in 2010 after falling for a number of years. What is especially troubling is that these crimes have increased in the suburbs and small towns – places where it rarely happened before.

Three keys to making sure that your home is secure. The first is simple: Use some common sense. Don’t post vacation plans on Facebook and don’t post vacation photos while still on vacation. Many burglaries are committed by someone you know or by someone connected to someone you know. Letting the world know that you’re not home is an easy way to become a target.

The second key is to make your home a less attractive target than your neighbor’s home. Sounds crazy, but if you and your neighbor are being chased by a dog, you don’t need to be faster than the dog, just your neighbor. Make your home a less attractive target and thieves will go somewhere else. Steps to making your home less attractive to burglars include cutting shrubs and properly lighting the inside and outside of your home.

The third key is to secure the exterior of your home.  . It is estimated that  85 percent of all break-ins are through a door. Secure your doors and you greatly increase your likelihood of success against a burglar. Alarms are a great addition to your home’s security. Security does not need to cost a lot, it just needs to work. Anyone that tells you otherwise is taking you for a ride. With a little common sense and a little effort you can effectively secure your home.

Fire Alarm Installation completed at Harding Place

Harding Place Fire Alarm Installation

Midwest Security & Fire, Inc. recently completed the installation of a new fire alarm system at Harding Place in Harding MN. The installation involved complete removal of the old fire alarm originally installed in the late 1960′s and installation of an Edwards Vigilant control panel, pull stations, smoke and heat sensors, and the Genesis line of horn/strobes from Edwards. The Fire alarm system  is also connected to the buildings sprinkler system to monitor the flow of water, tamper, and supervisory conditions including the fire pump operations.

Harding Place is an older facility and the installation presented many challenges which were overcome by the experience and knowledge of our staff. This new system with provide for the saftey and protection of the residents and staff for many years to come.

We would like to thank the Residents and Staff for thier patience and cooperation during the installation. We would also like to thank the staff at Horizon Health  for the great work they do for the Seniors, Developmentaly Disabled, and Veterans throughout our communities.
