Fire Alarm Installation completed at Harding Place

Harding Place Fire Alarm Installation

Midwest Security & Fire, Inc. recently completed the installation of a new fire alarm system at Harding Place in Harding MN. The installation involved complete removal of the old fire alarm originally installed in the late 1960′s and installation of an Edwards Vigilant control panel, pull stations, smoke and heat sensors, and the Genesis line of horn/strobes from Edwards. The Fire alarm system  is also connected to the buildings sprinkler system to monitor the flow of water, tamper, and supervisory conditions including the fire pump operations.

Harding Place is an older facility and the installation presented many challenges which were overcome by the experience and knowledge of our staff. This new system with provide for the saftey and protection of the residents and staff for many years to come.

We would like to thank the Residents and Staff for thier patience and cooperation during the installation. We would also like to thank the staff at Horizon Health  for the great work they do for the Seniors, Developmentaly Disabled, and Veterans throughout our communities.

Harding Place Fire Alarm Replacement Project

Andy and Jared at Harding Place

Midwest Security & Fire recently started the Fire Alarm replacement project at Harding Place. Harding Place is a country like home care facility designed for those who need 24 hour personalized care and is located in Harding Minnesota.

The Facility is the location of the former Harding School and the fire alarm system was older with limited coverage. Midwest Security & Fire worked with Horizon Health to plan replacement of the Fire Alarm system to provide the residents and staff with life safety.

The new system will utilize the Edwards Vigilant Control Panel, new addressable devices and the Genesis Horn/Stobe notification. In addition, the system will connect to the sprinkler system and sprinkler fire pump controls to monitor for fire and trouble conditions.  Follow us  on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Midwest-Security-Fire/193779565886  for more updates on this and other security and fire projects.

Free Home Security System!

Free Security System Brainerd Nisswa Crosslake Park Rapids

You know the saying “If It Sounds To Good To Be True, It Probably Is” or “Nothing in Life Is For Free”? Well they are both  true, and there is no such thing as a free security system either. No one is going to give you a Free Security System like the advertisments lead you to believe.

I am looking through my mail today and on the back page of an advertising package full of coupons and advertising is an offer from one of the national security companies for a FREE Home Security System! NO COST to you for parts and activation with ONLY a $99..00 Customer  Installation Charge  and the purchase of alarm monitoring services subject to terms and conditions below.

Here is what you get from the National Security Companies or Mass Market Merchandisers- Front and Back Doors, Infared Motion sensor, Digital Keypad, Siren, Lawn Sign and Decals. In the fine print it states that you agree to a 36 month monitoring agreement at $35.99 per month by credit card or electronically from your savings or checking account. You will pay $1,295.00 plus the $99.00 installation charge for a total of $1,394.00. You own the system? Remember, you agreed to purchase monitoring services and pay an installation charge, you are not purchasing a security system? Who has only  two doors in thier house? Where are theses guys from and what happens when we need some service? Are they reputable companies, what kind of work do they do, what is the warranty, are they licensed, do they have insurance?  These are all great questions. We do not reccomend anyone buy a system from a national or mass merchandising security company. The risk is to high to gamble when you are dealing with the security of your family, home or business.

Our family has been installing security systems throughout Minnesota for over 33 years. We are a trusted name in Security and provide Products from Leading Manufacturers in the industry. Digital, IP, and Megapixel Surveillance Systems and Cameras

Outdoor pan, tilt, and zoom camera

Scrap metal is a hot commodity these days. With commodities markets drawing investment from those who still lack confidence in Wall Street, metal prices are soaring, which means incidents of metal theft are, too.

The Department of Energy estimated in 2009 that theft of copper wire – from power lines or abandoned homes and businesses – costs the public $1 billion annually, and in Britain, thieves are even swiping sections of railroad track so they can pocket the profits. About 30 states have made efforts to stiffen their penalties against the practice in the past several years.

Midwest Security & Fire provides quality surveillance camera systems available that can help deter and capture theft at your home or business. We offer a variety of surveillance systems to fit your needs and budget. Our surveillance systems capture quality video and may be viewed on the premise or remotely over the internet using your computer or smartphone. Give us a call today for a demonstration and security review. We will prepare a detailed no obligation proposal for indoor or outdoor cameras, IP cameras, digital recorders (DVR), megapixel cameras, or high definition cameras for your home or business.

Home Security Systems Brainerd, Wadena, Park Rapids, Minneapolis & St. Paul

Home Security Brochure from the Brainerd Police Department

This has been a very busy year  at Midwest Security & Fire. Our company has been working on many residential and commercial security, fire, surveillance, and access control installations. We have been very fortunate that we have great residential and commercial customers and are blessed to live in such a great area of Minnesota.

This week we installed a new access control system at the Brainerd Police Department. Thier system is designed to monitor and control access to doors and areas of the building. The existing system was from a national company that had installed equipment that only they could work on, and had become obsolete in just the few years it had been installed. The repairs and maintenence to the system were to costly for them to continue. Midwest Security & Fire was able to replace the access system with a high quality and cost effective system  by one of the Worlds most popular access control manufactures. The Brainerd Police Department can now have local, prompt, and cost effective security service. Thats the way it should be!

While there at the installation, I found the brouchure in the picture on a rack in the lobby. Its is a great resource and has many good security tips. I thought the photo and caption in the brochure “Unmonitored alarms are of little use” speaks to what we have said for years. Law enforcment agencies and insurance companies have been saying for years that one of the best ways to protect your home or business is with a monitored security system.

Security Tip of The Week- Email security

This morning I recieved an email from a customer explaining that they were on vacation with  family in England. She explained that her purse was stolen and all her money, credit cards, and passport. She continued to ask if we could help her by sending money. The email looked very authentic and had the actual email address.

This email was a scam. Someone hacked the email account and is now sending a scam to  the contacts in the computer. The computer used has probably been given a virus that will continue to create problems. I did not respond to the email and deleted it immediately. If I had responded, I could have been hacked or given a virus.

I called the customer and guess what, she was not in England, she was sitting at her desk in Brainerd Minnesota. I was right. Imagine that.

If you recieve email from anyone asking for money, credit card, wire information, paypal, Western Union, etc… dont open the email and delete it immediately. Your real freinds or relatives are not going to send you an email from England pleading for help-  they will call. Once you give these scammers your information, the money is gone and your problems have just begun. If you suspect your computer or email account has been compromised, call your IT person immediately and stop using the PC. Continued use will only make the problem worse. If your email account has been compromised, change  passwords and contact your IT person, Administrator, or Internet Srevice Provider.  If this is a work PC, report all issues to your employer so that they can protect other PC’s in the workplace.

Security Tip of the Week

If you are ever trapped in a fire, be prepared to crawl. Smoke and heat rise. The air is clearer and cooler near the floor. Try to escape through a door. If it’s not hot, open slowly and ensure fire and/or smoke is not blocking your escape route. If your escape route is blocked, shut the door immediately and use an alternate escape route, such as a window. If you cannot escape through a window, hang a white or light-colored sheet outside the window, alerting fire fighters of your presence.
